Such a great system. Being able to talk to a dr face to face virtually is a fantastic solution when not being able to see one’s own dr at short notice.

I saw a doctor by video call the same day. My care was comprehensive, the doctor spent plenty of time with me and sent the forms I needed and faxed my pharmacy while I was still on the call. The video call was good quality and worked without any issue. Excellent service!

My virtual doctor was Dr Li. He was fantastic. My appt was at 9:30 sharp and there was no delays or waiting like at the doctor’s office. The whole process was very smooth and efficient. Would definitely consult with Dr Li in the future if needed.

Virtual Dr has been a lifesaver for my personal health care. My family doctor left their practice and I was stuck without a physician, which is hard when you have mental health issues that need to be managed. Dr. Li was awesome, he was committed and willing to help me over many appointments while ensuring the highest level of ethical care, which I have found other physicians have struggled with in a virtual environment. You don't wait weeks or months for help; all the available appointments within the next few days are provided to you - it's like the availability of a walk-in clinic without the wait, with the perk of being able to see the same doctor each time you book! I can't recommend this service or this doctor enough!

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What Is Virtual Therapy?

Virtual therapy, also known as teletherapy or online therapy, is the delivery of mental health services via videoconferencing or other technologies. It allows patients to receive therapy from a licensed therapist remotely, without having to physically visit a clinic or office.

Is Virtual Therapy As Effective As In-Person Therapy?

There is evidence to suggest that virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many mental health concerns.

Is Virtual Therapy Confidential?
Virtual therapy is generally considered to be confidential, as it is protected by the same laws and ethical standards that apply to in-person therapy. However, it is important to be aware of the potential risks of confidentiality when using any form of online communication, such as ensuring that you are in a private location where others cannot overhear your conversation or see your screen.

Do I Need Special Equipment Or Software To Praticipate In Virtual Therapy?

To participate in virtual therapy over video, you will need a device with a camera and microphone, such as a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and an internet connection. You will also need a web browser (such as Chrome) to join the virtual therapy session.

Can Sessions be over the phone

Yes, if you prefer, sessions can be over a phone call instead of Video

Can Therapists Prescribe Medications?

Therapists are not licensed to prescribe medications. In order to prescribe medications, a person must be a medical doctor or a nurse practitioner. Therapists, on the other hand, are trained in providing talk therapy, which is a type of treatment that involves talking through one's thoughts and feelings with a trained professional in order to address and resolve emotional or mental health issues.

However, some psychotherapists do work closely with medical doctors or nurse practitioners who are able to prescribe medications. In these cases, the psychotherapist may provide talk therapy to the patient while the medical doctor or nurse practitioner prescribes and monitors any medications that are needed. This is often referred to as a "collaborative care" model, and it can be very effective in treating mental health conditions that require both therapy and medication.

How Do I Prepare For An Online Therapy Session?

To prepare for an online therapy session, you should:

  • Choose a private and quiet location where you will not be interrupted or overheard
  • Make sure you have a device with a camera and microphone, as well as an internet connection
  • Test your equipment and connection before the session to ensure that everything is working properly
  • Have any materials or documents that you might need during the session ready and accessible
What Should I Expect During An Online Therapy Session?

An online therapy session is similar to an in-person therapy session, with some differences due to the virtual format. You can expect to:

  • Have a conversation with your therapist about your concerns and goals for therapy
  • Engage in activities or exercises that your therapist suggests to help you work on specific issues or skills
  • Receive support and guidance from your therapist as you work through challenges and make progress
Is Online Therapy Covered By Insurance?

It depends on your specific insurance plan. Most insurance plans cover online therapy, while others do not. It is a good idea to check with your insurance company to see what is covered under your plan.

What to look for on my Insurance Coverage
1. Am I covered for Registered Social Work and/or Registered Psychotherapy?

2. How much coverage do I have per year and is it different amounts for Social Work and/or Psychotherapy or is it lumped together? Is it lumped together with my other paramedical healthcare providers like chiropractors, physiotherapists and massage therapy?

3. When is the renewal date for the insurance plan?

4. Is there a per session maximum? Is it the same rate or is it different for Social Work and Psychotherapy? How much can the insurance cover per session at most?

5. Is there a percent that is covered per session? If so, what is the percent of coverage? Eg 80% or 100%

Who is a Registered Psychotherapist?

A registered psychotherapist is a regulated practitioner in psychotherapy in good standing with the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). In Ontario, therapists who are registered with the CRPO, use the title or designation of Registered Psychotherapist and have the abbreviation RP after their name.

Who is a Registered Social Worker?

In Ontario, therapists who are registered with the OCSWSSW, use the title or designation of registered Social Worker and have the abbreviation RSW after their name.

How Do I Know If Online Therapy Is Right For Me?

Online therapy is a good option if you prefer the convenience and flexibility of receiving therapy from your preferred location without having to travel or wait for an appointment. Such as from the comfort of your own home or even at work while you are on your lunch break.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes, we offer 15 minutes screening consultation.

How much does psychotherapy cost?

Our fee is $195+HST per 50-minute session.

What I should expect in the first appointment?
The initial appointment involves a detailed intake to understand your background, your strengths, and your presenting problems. Our aim is to get to know each client better as a person, and within their family/relational system. Based on the information you provide and in a collaborative process we will start to formulate a treatment plan that would meet your specific psychological needs. At the end of the consultation, you will have a better idea on what are the imminent issues that needs to be addressed, what type of treatment you would receive (eg. CBT), and what would be the long-term outcomes for your therapy. Sometimes an individual’s primary concerns or symptoms are not within our area of expertise. If this happens, we will refer you to another professional who can help.
Is the service covered by OHIP

OHIP does not currently cover psychotherapy services.  However, many extended health benefit plans offer some yearly coverage for Psychotherapy services. Please check your insurance policy for coverage.

How many sessions do I need?
This will depend on the individual client’s needs.
How often should I attend Psychotherapy sessions?

Most clients find weekly sessions useful

Are the sessions in person or online?
Our service is fully virtual, you will be able to see the therapist via a safe and secure video conference.
Can I have a session while out of the province/country?

You can have a session while you are out of the province or the country as long as you are a resident of Ontario.
